SPC Flooring Specification Checklist for Distributors and Project Buyers

For distributors and project buyers, an SPC flooring specification is more than a product name and a colour reference. A clear brief helps the supplier recommend the right construction, prepares a quotation that can be compared accurately, and reduces changes after sampling.

Start with the intended interior application

Describe where the flooring will be installed and who will use the space. A residential programme, hospitality renovation and commercial roll-out can require different visual, installation and performance priorities. State the room type, expected traffic, local site conditions and any project standards that must be considered before approval.

Confirm the selected visual and format

Choose the collection, plank or tile format, pattern, texture and edge treatment you want to review. For a distribution range, it is useful to group visuals by the market segment they serve: natural wood looks, stone looks or patterned designs. Request physical samples before final sign-off because screen images cannot confirm colour or embossing.

Define the construction

The core construction should be written into the inquiry. Confirm total thickness, wear layer, surface finish, backing, locking system and any selected profile detail. These items affect how a product is positioned, quoted, packed and installed. Do not assume that two products with a similar visual have the same construction.

  • Total thickness: identify the required finished thickness for the programme.
  • Wear layer: confirm the selected option for the intended interior application.
  • Backing: state whether an attached backing is required and the preferred configuration.
  • Surface and edge: include texture, gloss level and edge preference where relevant.
  • Installation: share any locking, subfloor or installation considerations known at the enquiry stage.

Plan the commercial details early

A useful purchase brief also records quantity, destination country, expected timing and packaging needs. If the programme will be supplied through distribution, include the target market and whether sample boards, product data or carton information are required. For project orders, identify the decision date and the documents needed for review.

Keep samples, quotations and documents aligned

Use the same description across the sample request, quotation and final product documentation. This is especially helpful when a collection has several visuals or construction options. A consistent reference reduces avoidable confusion between the product that was sampled and the product that is ordered.
